  • Amazon.com (AMZN | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) reported quarterly per share earnings of 41 cents after the market closed on Thursday. The Internet retailer beat estimates by ten cents.

  • Also announcing after the bell on Thursday was American Express (AXP | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) and Microsoft (MSFT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating). American Express reported per share earnings of 32 cents, smashing analyst estimates by nearly 20 cents. Microsoft met analyst expectations with a quarterly EPS of 39 cents

  • New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said that Bank of America (BAC | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) had been pressured by both former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and current Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke not to pull out of their deal to acquire Merrill Lynch.

  • Among the companies reporting earnings Friday morning before the market opens is Ford Motor Company (F | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), which is expected to report EPS of -1.26, and Schlumberger (SLB | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating), which is expected to announce per share earnings of 77 cents.

  • Closing higher for a third day in a row and up more than 19% on Thursday was Capital One Financial (COF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating).
