Sanofi-aventis Says Anticoagulant Clexane Receives Approval In Japan - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Monday, Sanofi-aventis (SNY | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ) announced that the anticoagulant Clexane was approved for marketing in Japan by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare for the prevention of venous thromboembolism, or VTE, in patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery of the lower limbs like total hip replacement, total knee replacement and hip fracture surgery.

The company said that venous thromboembolism is a frequent complication among patients hospitalized for orthopaedic surgery.

Commenting on the approval Hanspeter Spek, executive vice-president, Pharmaceutical Operations, Sanofi-aventis said," In Japan, Clexane is expected to greatly contribute to the prevention of venous thromboembolism and fulfill an important medical need for patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery."
