BSD Medical Says Multi Institutional Review Of Combined Radiation And Hyperthermia In Recurrent Breast Cancer Records Higher Response Rate - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - BSD Medical Corp. (BSM | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ) announced that a multi institutional review of use of combined radiation and hyperthermia therapy for treating recurrent breast cancer recorded an increase in response rate compared to those received radiation alone.

The report published in American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology noted that patients who received hyperthermia had a complete response rate of 67% compared with 39% for patients who did not receive hyperthermia. Eight cancer institutes participated in the review.

According to the company more than half of the patients from the pooled data received hyperthermia therapy in addition to radiation. The review concluded, "repeat radiation therapy of the chest wall for patients with locally recurrent breast cancer is feasible."
