Tessera Technologies Reveals Initial Office Action By Patent And Trademark Office - Update

(RTTNews) - Tessera Technologies, Inc. (TSRA | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ), a Jose, California-based developer of miniaturization technologies for the electronics industry, on Monday said the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued an initial office action regarding Tessera's 5,679,977 patent in ex parte re-examination.

The company noted that this initial action is non-final and would be subject to a lengthy review process, including the possibility of appeal. This issued patent is presumed to be valid, intact and enforceable during the reexamination process.

Last week the company said the ITC overruled a judge's order to suspend a wireless patent infringement case against Motorola (MOT | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ) and Qualcom (QCOM | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ), among others. The patents concern chip packages.

TSRA closed Monday's regular trade at $20.80, down $1.13 or 5.15%, on 7.97 million shares.
