According to Shire, the analysis of a late stage study in pediatric patients with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD showed that the effect size of Vyvanse was 1.39, 1.42 and 1.73 for 30 mg, 50 mg and 70 mg dosages of the drug respectively.
The company carried out the analysis to prove that the effect size of Vyvanse was due to the drug's effectiveness and not due to the accuracy of measurement as indexed by standard deviation of endpoint scores, and the size of baseline versus endpoint placebo effect. Baseline refers to a person's health status before he or she begins a clinical trial). The relationship between effect size and clinical benefit has not been established.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimates that 7.8% of all school-age children, or about 4.4 million U.S. children aged 4 to 17 years, have been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder at some point in their lives.
On the Nasdaq, SHPGY closed Friday's regular trade up 2.18% or $1.57 at $73.45 on a volume of 752,828 shares. In after-hours, the stock gained $0.09 and was at $73.54.
