The stock ended trading at $108.82 up $15.23 from Thursday's close.
The advance took the stock well over a recent trading range and to its highest level in about three weeks.
The company said that net earnings for the second quarter were $37.3 million, or $1.41 per share, compared to $26.9 million, or $1.03 per share, in the same quarter of 2007.
Quarterly sales increased to $497.1 million from $402.3 million for the same period of 2007.
Analysts, on average, polled by First Call/Thomson Financial expected earnings of $1.35 per share on revenues of $479.50 million.
