Following a similar agreement signed with AT&T, on February 18, Verizon has now become the second US telecommunications carrier to license C2's patent portfolio.
In June 2006, C2 Communications Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of C2, filed a patent infringement lawsuit against AT&T, Verizon Communications, Qwest Communications International, Bellsouth, Sprint Nextel, Global Crossing, and Level 3 Communications. The complaint was filed in the Marshall Division of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas and alleges that the defendants' services and systems utilizing VoIP infringe C2 Communications' US Patent No. 6,243,373, entitled 'Method and Apparatus for Implementing a Computer Network/Internet Telephone System'. The complaint sought an injunction, monetary damages and costs.
Allan Silber, chairman & CEO of Counsel and C2, said: "We are extremely pleased with C2's success in licensing its patents to companies with the stature of AT&T and Verizon and look forward to C2 generating significant licensing and royalty revenue in the future."
