BYD to Launch Hybrid Electric Sedan in China at 2008-end

SHENZHEN, Mar 07, 2008 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- BYDDF | news | PowerRating | PR Charts -- Shenzhen-headed BYD Company Limited, a Chinese battery producer, vows that its cars will be available in the European market two or three years later and hopes its hybrid electric sedan will win the favor of customers who pay more attention to clean fuel.

Wang Chuanfu, chairman of BYD, announces that BYD-made cars powered by electricity and gasoline will debut the Chinese market before the end of 2008 and then step into Europe in 2010 as the earliest as most.

BYD Auto, the car manufacturing arm of BYD Co., was established in 2003 but it has been growing rapidly. Given the advantages in battery it parent holds, BYD Auto is engaged in creating chargeable electric sedan, which is expected to fight head-on-head with the counterparts made by Toyota and General Motors.

Mr. Wang discloses that BYD's hybrid electric sedan can run 110 kilometers after being charged once. He predicts that the monthly sales of this new type will be as small as 500 cars in China at first and then reach 2,000 cars in 2009.
