The new site will mainly serve foreign travelers who want to go to China. Ctrip.com has teamed up a foreign employee group for the site. It aims at the swelling tourism market during the periods of the Beijing Olympic Games 2008 and the World Expo Shanghai 2010, said the chief executive officer Mr. Fan Min.
Currently, around 90% of Ctrip.com's air ticket and hotel reservations are in China. Only about 10% are for the Chinese people to travel abroad. Foreign travelers are accustomed to online reservation. Therefore, the English site will attract more foreigners, said Tang Lan, vice president for marketing.
There were 132 million travelers into China in 2007. By 2015, China will become the largest destination for inbound travel, according to the World Tourism Organization.
