The meeting, which ended on Wednesday, was organised by the Economic Commission for Africa and started on March 31.
Prof Nyong'o is believed to be the ODM choice for minister for Finance if PNU agrees to surrender the ministry in the current portfolio balance stalemate.
The executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, Mr Abdoulie Janneh, invited Prof Nyong'o as "a special guest."
Prof Nyong'o, alongside African Finance ministers, met selected African Heads of State and Government and eminent persons invited to enrich the discussions and contribute in shaping practical and effective policy responses to the continent's economic and development challenges.
"Meeting Africa's New Challenges in the 21st Century" was the theme of the conference. It was described as timely because Africa must address its immediate and long-term challenges to accelerate the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
The panel discussions addressed the issues of climate change, HIV and Aids and the empowerment of the people. A common policy position in the form of a ministerial statement was adopted at the end of the session.
Finance minister Amos Kimunya did not attend the meeting.
