At a workshop discussing the impacts of WTO membership on Vietnam economy and society, Antonio Berenguer, Trade Counsellor of the EC delegation described Vietnam as a potential market for European countries.
Participants at the event, which was held in central Danang city on April 4, agreed that Vietnam ?s accession to WTO has positive effects on the country economy and society.
According to Professor of International Law Claudio Dordi from Italy ?s Bocconi university, the WTO itself does not bring about any development opportunity, but creates conditions for its members to take advantage of the benefits and opportunities from international integration.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Bien told the workshop that Vietnam has made positive changes after 15 months joining the world largest trade organisation, demonstrating by high economic growth rate, export value and FDI attraction, and improved legal system.
However, the country has been facing many challenges, he said.
