HANOI, Apr 08, 2008 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- -- Highlights of today's newspapers:

NHAN DAN:

- Seafood catching operations faced difficulties due to increased oil prices. Up to 30-40 per cent of the fishing boats stay ashore. An urgent plan to support fishermen is needed.

- Speeding up the tempo of the Hoang Sa historical site preservation project on Ly Son island.

- Vietnam calls for stronger Asia-Middle East cooperation.

SAIGON GIAI PHONG:

- Ha Long Bay continues to lead the voting for seven new world natural wonders.

LAO DONG:

- Banks sold stakes to foreign investors: some rejoice, others express regret.

QUAN DOI NHAN DAN:

- Banks that provide loans with high interest rates will be strictly punished and the shortage of foreign currency is a temporary situation, according to the Vietnam Bank's Association.

- A governmental meeting was held in the south to discuss measures to curb inflation for socio-economic development: Joining forces to overcome difficulties.

- Vietnam-Japan strives to soon sign a comprehensive economic partnership agreement.

- Lang Co bay is likely to become a member of The World's Most Beautiful Bays club.

DAU TU:

- Ford committed to further its investment in Vietnam. Ford Vietnam has announced its decision to invest an additional US$10 million in Vietnam to expand its production base. An interview with Dave Alden, Ford ASEAN Chairman.

TIEN PHONG:

- The monetary market saw a US dollar shortage. According to the State Bank of Vietnam , VND-USD exchange rate stands at between VND16,118.00 and VND16,120.00 to the US dollar. Apart from rising in value, the US dollar became scarce in the market, igniting a race to mobilise USD until commercial banks agreed on April 2 to put the cap for USD deposit interest rate at 6 per cent.

THOI BAO NGAN HANG:

- After a wave of investment in high-grade apartment buildings, commercial centres and resorts, foreign investors again join another race to build golf courses. However, behind the opulent face of golf courses, many issues need to be considered, including the combination of socio-economic development with environmental protection in areas where golf courses will be built.

- It is time to readjust investment list. The freeze of the market is considered a good time for investors to readjust their investment lists to prepare for new battles.
