The firm said that the closure will be done in stages over the next 12 months and that the workers who lose their jobs will receive severance packages and advice on finding new jobs.
The director of the TSP global supply chain, Gopal Chandramowle, said that "despite the best efforts of the team in Puerto Rico, high operating costs have brought TSP to make the difficult, but necessary, decision to relocate the manufacturing operation ... outside Puerto Rico."
Meanwhile, to maintain its presence on the island, TSP will create a Center of Excellence in Manufacturing that will generate 25 high-level jobs and will be dedicated to developing innovative techniques and processes, as well as to experimenting with new manufacturing technology.
Tyco Safety Productos, an affiliate of Tyco International, designs, manufactures and sells products to detect and extinguish fires, respiratory devices and security, video access and video administration systems, among other things. EFE
