HANOI, Apr 18, 2008 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- -- Highlights of today's newspapers:

NHAN DAN:

- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung: Vietnam will do its utmost to ratchet up cooperation with the United Kingdom.

- More efforts to be made to complete the demarcation and the planting of border-marks on the Vietnam-China border on time.

- Vietnam backs increased cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations.

- Vietnam-Norway cooperation. The second political consultation between the Vietnamese and Norwegian Foreign Ministries took place in Hanoi on April 17.

HANOI MOI:

- Cooperative ties between Hanoi and the South Ostrobothnia region of Finland are to be expanded.

- US Health Secretary Mike Leavitt talks on the formulation of a mechanism to provide safeguards to Vietnamese commodities for export. Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Peoples Committee Nguyen Thanh Tai met with US Secretary of Health and Human Services.

QUAN DOI NHAN DAN:

- The US wants to work with Vietnam to ensure food hygiene and safety.

- Vietnam tops PriceWaterhouseCooperss list of attractive investment destinations.

SAIGON GIAI PHONG:

- Vietnam to manufacture its own satellite after launching Vinasat-1.

- Vietnam and Oman set up a US$100 million joint investment fund.

LAO DONG:

- APG assesses the effectiveness of Vietnam's fight against money laundering.

THANH NIEN:

- Banks interest rates war continues. Banks are keeping close watch on each other. Bank managers in Ho Chi Minh said they will promptly adjust interest rates of deposit money depending on market fluctuations.

THOI BAO KINH TE VIETNAM:

- Prices of construction materials and building contracts are to be adjusted. An interview with Deputy Construction Minister Dinh Tien Dung.

THOI BAO TAI CHINH VIETNAM:

- Taxes need to stimulate businesses growth. The revised Law on Value Added Tax and Incorporate Income Law will have new articles in favour of businesses, allowing them to enjoy tariff reduction and more incentives.

- Good time for investment into Vietnam's stock market. Close to 100 financial fund directors, real estate developers and experts gathered in Ho Chi Minh City recently to discuss developments of the stock and property markets and share successful lessons in investment.
