KARACHI, May 01, 2008 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- -- Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to India Hans Dannenberg Castellanos has invited Pakistan's business community to visit the Dominican Republic to see business and investment opportunities in that country.

Speaking at a meeting of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday, Mr Castellanos said that Dominica is a free zone. He said his country offered attractive investment opportunities in textiles, tourism, agriculture and a cyberpark complex.

The country has improved working conditions and the environment, and also also offers opportunities to Pakistan exporters to export pharmaceutical, textiles and other products, he said.

The Dominican Republic is part of CAFTA, a free trade agreement with Central America and the United State.

Referring to tourism, Mr Castellanos said that the country has very good hotels and around 500 new hotels are under construction due to increasing inflow of tourists.

He assured that on the recommendation of KCCI, the Dominican Republic would issue multiple entry visas for one year.

He said that the country had a population of nine million and its gross domestic product (GDP) was around US$30 billion.

Welcoming the guests, Senior Vice President of KCCI Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh invited the business community of Dominican Republic to visit Pakistan. He also invited them to take part in the fifth KCCI international exhibition to be held in June.
