Baidu Took Over 60% Chinese Search Engine Market in Q1

BEIJING, May 02, 2008 (SinoCast China IT Watch via COMTEX) -- BIDU | news | PowerRating | PR Charts -- Baidu.com Inc. (Nasdaq: BIDU | news | PowerRating | PR Charts ) took more than 60% market share in China in the first quarter of 2008, according to a quarterly surveillance report on the country's search engine market by TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecom) market research firm Analysys International.

In the period, the Chinese Internet search services provider promoted entertainment channel and rebuilt financial and economic channel; Baidu Security Center an.baidu.com started operation, with the help of antivirus software builder Kingsoft Corporation Limited (SEHK: 3888); instant messaging software Baidu Hi and Baidu Voice Search entered an open beta test; Baidu teamed up with China Netcom Group Corporation (Hong Kong) Ltd. (SEHK: 0906 and NYSE: CN), and launched short message search services; an alliance was formed with 15 radio stations around China, including China Radio International (CRI), so that listeners are able to receive programs on the Internet; Baidu was licensed by the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) to become a professional institution offering registration services of .CN domain names; and cooperative agreements were inked with edu.cn, web analytics and online business optimization platform provider Omniture, and Haier Group.
