At the close, the DJ STOXX 50 was up 57.08 points, or 1.76 percent, at 3,294.28, while the STOXX 600 was up 6.12 points, or 1.89 percent, at 329.21.
On Wall Street, by Europe's close, the DJIA was 46.00 points higher at 13,056.00, while the S&P 500 index was ahead 4.94 points at 1,414.28, but the Nasdaq composite index lost 5.15 points at 2,475.56 on some profit taking.
U.S. blue chips extended recent gains after the latest employment report showed far fewer than expected jobs were cut last month, stirring optimism about the buoyancy of the world's biggest economy, while a separate report showed U.S. factory orders increased in March following two months of decline. tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.com jmh/kf1
