SEN. VOINOVICH TO DISCUSS OHIO IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE LEGISLATION

Statewide conference to bring together economists, energy experts and environmental groups to review challenges and opportunities facing Ohio

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich (R-OH), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee's Clean Air and Nuclear Safety Subcommittee, will deliver the keynote address at the first statewide Ohio climate change conference TODAY, May 2 at 12:45 p.m. "Managing a Changing Climate: Challenges and Opportunities for the Buckeye State" will bring together economists, energy experts, industry representatives, environmentalists and other stakeholders to review the challenges and opportunities facing Ohio when it comes to developing a comprehensive and economically viable solution to global climate change.

In addition to Sen. Voinovich - who will focus on finding a pro-growth solution to climate change by creating incentives for the development and deployment of new technologies - several local and national speakers will provide remarks, followed by two panel discussions on traditional and renewable energy sources. Experts from organizations including the American Council for Capital Formation, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Nuclear Energy Institute, George V. Voinovich School for Leadership & Public Affairs at Ohio University, Electric Power Research Institute and utility companies will be featured.

The conference is sponsored by the Ohio Climate Change Dialogue Group, which was formed to: build understanding among Ohioans of current Congressional proposals to address climate change; provide objective assessments of the potential economic and job impacts of such proposals; evaluate new energy and environmental technologies; and encourage constructive dialogue to identify options for achieving reduced emissions while protecting Ohio's economy.

The entire conference is open to press. This is an excellent media opportunity for interviews and background with a number of economic and energy experts who can discuss the current state of global climate change and its potential impact on quality of life for all Ohioans.
