CHENGDU, May 05, 2008 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- -- China and Italy jointly initiated a feasibility study on a demonstrative project of jatropha curcas-based biodiesel research and industrialization in Sichuan University, which is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, Southwest China, on April 28, 2008.

The project was started by the college of life science under Sichuan University and Tolo Energia, an Italian fuel company, and it received EUR 450,000 from Italy environmental protection foundation, of which Italian side got EUR 250,000, and the college had the rest. The project would exert significant influence on both sides in the industrialization and global cooperation in the fields of renewable energy sources.

In addition, the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea of Italy have started up three cooperation projects since April 12, 2008, including jatropha curcas-based biodiesel in Sichuan Province, industrial waste oil-based biodiesel in Wuhan, Hubei Province, and thin-film solar cells in Shanghai.
