The price hike policy was also tailored with a decision to provide a big compensation to the community of the lower economic bracket, Boediono told the press after a limited meeting at the presidential office here on Monday.
Boediono said that the government would also cut back on fuel oil consumption and electricity by converting energy, electrical tariff calculation with incentives as well as the arrangement of electrical consumption at the government offices.
Fuel oil retrenchment would have to be preceeded by preliminary steps for example by using smart cards and control cards which will be on trial test in some regions.
In addition, state budget retrenchment program which has been decided in the 2008 amended state budget will be carried out.
As to the granting of compensation to poor people, according to the minnister, its mechanism and amount of assistance were still under discussion.
Touching on the exact time to announce the fuel hikes, he said he could not yet tell the journalists.
At present, he added, the government could not predict the rate of fuel hikes, as the calculations and other technical matters relating to the decision were still underway.
However he hinted that the amount would however be within the reach of the public along with the compensation, he said.
In a press conference, Boediono was flanked by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, and National Development Planning Minister Paskah Suzeta.
