Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters, on average, expected a profit of 25 cents a share.
Revenue rose 3.4% to $293.6 million from $283.9 million, slightly above the $293.1 million mean estimate.
The San Diego-based healthcare staffing company said it sees second-quarter earnings of 26 cents to 28 cents a share on sales of $313 million to $316 million. Wall Street is looking for earnings of 29 cents a share on $306.9 million in sales for the June-ended period.
AMN Healthcare backed its 2008 earnings growth view of 11% to 16% on sales growth of 7% to 12%.
