NEW YORK, May 09, 2008 (Dow Jones Commodities News Select via Comtex) -- -- Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries have contributed slightly more than $1.5 million so far in 2008 to the United Nations' food program, Fox News reported on its Web site Friday, citing data provided by the U.N.

The United Arab Emirates, an OPEC member, has given $50,000 this year, Fox News reported. Saudi Arabia, another member, hasn't made a contribution to the U.N. food arm, the World Food Program. There were no other breakdowns in the report by country of OPEC-member donations.

The U.S., for its part, had given $363 million by May 4 and was the biggest donor. A U.N. summit on the food issue is slated for June, Fox News reported.
