Northwest confirmed that it would raise its fuel surcharge by USD10 each way, matching the increase that was earlier implemented by Delta Air Lines and matched by United Airlines, American Airlines and Continental Airlines.
The new fuel charge on Northwest's domestic fares will be USD65 each way.
The airline described the high cost of fuel as "an extraordinary challenge for Northwest and the airline industry".
