The money is part of a $180 million appropriation by Congress to provide counseling to families and individuals facing the threat of foreclosure.
CCCS of Greater Greensboro received its portion of the funding as a member agency of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling.
The agency will use the new funding to expand its existing free housing counseling and foreclosure mitigation services, said Linda McKnight, CCCS director. This includes hiring two new counselors.
CCCS is a nonprofit financial counseling and education program of Family Service of the Piedmont Inc.
Serving Guilford County and its surrounding areas, its goal is to help families and individuals resolve financial problems and avoid bankruptcy through budget counseling, credit counseling, housing counseling and debt solver programs.
