Kampala, May 16, 2008 (New Vision/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- -- ART is probably the most dynamic force undergoing an incessant mutation. Ugandan artists have not been left behind. At the forefront of this change is Dr. Kizito Kasule, a senior lecturer at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts, Makerere University.

A hard-line academic who wields forceful arguments about issues of art, Kizito is a non-conformist who always prefers toeing the alternative line from the mainstream.

In his last exhibition at the Makerere art gallery, he showcased art works that baffled viewers. He littered the gallery's floor with garbage, emptied a sack of charcoal on the same floor and menacingly hung a burnt tree trunk with a rope from the ceiling.

He called the work The Rise and Fall of NRM. Only the title told viewers the artwork was a scathing attack on political wickedness. This form of expression is fast grabbing the attention of more artists.
