Chilpancingo, Mexico, May 25, 2008 (EFE via COMTEX) -- -- A shark attacked an American tourist who was surfing in the Mexican Pacific resort city of Zihuatanejo, a day after a Mexican man was killed in another shark attack, emergency services officials said.

Bruce Grimes, 49, was bitten by a shark Saturday in Playa Linda, a beach in the southern state of Guerrero and went on his own to the Naval Hospital for treatment.

The American surfer was attacked a day after Mexican Osvaldo Mata was killed at another beach while surfing with some friends.

The 21-year-old Mata bled to death Friday from the extensive wounds he sustained and lack of prompt medical care.

On May 3, 12 sharks were killed in Playa Troncones, a beach located 45 minutes from downtown Zihuatanejo.

The shark hunt took place just days after an American tourist died from wounds sustained in a shark attack while surfing near Playa Troncones.

Three people have been attacked, with two of them dying, by sharks in less than a month on Mexico's Pacific coast. EFE
