JAPAN'S UNIDEN TO SHIFT MOST MANUFACTURING TO VIETNAM

HANOI, May 29, 2008 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- -- Uniden (TSE:6815), a Japanese phone producer, is planning to move the bulk of its manufacturing facilities from China and the Philippines to Vietnam to reduce costs and increase the competitiveness of its products.

Uniden will focus on manufacturing wireless phones at its 80,000 sq.m factory, which was built in 2007 in Hanoi .

The factory, with capital totalling US$45 million, is now operating experimentally and is expected to hire 7,000 workers by the end of 2008. Half of its annual capacity of 1 million phones will be exported to North America.
