About 79 percent of flights arrived on time at Charlotte/Douglas International in April, placing the airport 14th among 32 major U.S. airports, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported. In April 2007, Charlotte ranked 26th with an on-time arrival rate of 68 percent.
Through the first four months of 2008, Charlotte's on-time rate is close to 76 percent -- ninth among airports. In the same period last year, Charlotte was 27th with a rate of 66 percent.
The airport and US Airways were plagued early last year with severe winter weather and computer problems related to the US Airways-America West merger. Those problems caused long lines and several flight delays in March 2007.
Among 19 airlines that report data to the government, US Airways was the third-best major carrier for on-time arrivals this April, with a rate of about 81 percent nationwide compared with the industry average of almost 78 percent. In the first four months of this year, US Airways had the best on-time arrival rate among major airlines at about 79 percent. The industry average through April was less than 73 percent.
