PowerRating -- A company in the UK has developed a vaccine to alleviate hayfever symptoms. Sufferers of hayfever are allergic to pollen and get sore eyes, runny noses and prolonged bouts of sneezing. Allergy Therapeutics, in Worthing, UK, created the vaccine, called Pollinex Quattro. The company tested over 1,000 volunteers with the vaccine and a placebo for the control group just before the 2007 hayfever season. During the peak hayfever period, symptoms in those injected with the vaccine were reduced by 13%. The vaccine requires four injections over four weeks, making it quick and easy. Allergy Therapeutics wants to apply for permission to sell the vaccine in Europe in 2009.
