"Interoperability between Tekelec and VeriSign Communications Services provides significant opportunities for network operators to offer advanced features and applications with improved quality of service, said Robby Benedyk, senior product manager for Tekelec's TekPath product. With the ability to know that the service can stay on an all-IP, SIP-based network, operators can cut costs and provide faster delivery of applications like SMS or MMS while consumers benefit from an improved overall experience.
Benedyk noted that many service providers now offer subscribers enhanced voice and video services featuring high-fidelity capabilities. These features, however, are only possible when calls are established within or between two compatible or peered service networks. This requires interoperability between two critical points in the network: authoritative third-party peer-registry services, such as the VeriSign Network Routing Directory, and third-party ENUM address resolution platforms such as Tekelec's TekPath Route Director.
This interoperability effort reflects both companies' commitment to creating standard non-proprietary solutions to help improve user experiences and greatly expand the number of potential network users, said Paul Florack, VP of Network Services, VeriSign. Openness and interoperability between networks will drive network value as more consumers experience seamless communication and enjoy content-rich services. Florack said the use of IP technology would permit consumers to obtain a range of multimedia services, such as IP telephony, multimedia conferencing, interactive gaming, and general multimedia applications.
