Baidu has allied with more than 70 record companies, including EMI Music and Rock Records, and plans to join hands with Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG), Huayi Brothers Music and Ocean Butterflies soon.
The search engine helps its partner record companies promote their songs by providing free listening sample links. In return, it shares its advertising revenue with them.
The big order is expected to push the sharing revenue up by eight to 10 times, representing the maturity of the revenue sharing system Baidu adopts.
Statistics from CNNIC show that 71.2 percent netizens used the Internet to enjoy music in the past six months. Online music listening has become the most popular Internet applications in China.
