Exec says Australia's Telstra best-prepared for speedy broadband

PERTH, Jun 23, 2008 (Asia In Focus via COMTEX) -- TLSYY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- TELSTRA CORPORATION AUSTRALIA LTD (ASX:TLS) is the best-prepared telecommunications operator to build and operate a national high-speed broadband network, one of its top executives said today. Telstra group managing director of public policy and communications Phil Burgess said the telecommunications giant would meet the deadline to submit its bid for the mammoth undertaking.

* The federal government recently extended the original bid deadline from June 25 by at least 12 weeks to give the bidders time to examine Telstra's existing infrastructure.

* The network will offer high-speed broadband to 98 per cent of the population.
