3M completes RFID tracking system at Fort Hood, Texas

Jun 27, 2008 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- MMM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Diversified technology company 3M (NYSE:MMM) announced on Thursday (26 July) that the company has completed an RFID (radio frequency identification) tracking system at Fort Hood, Texas, US.

The company has developed and installed an RFID Smart Shelf System to track and manage more than 150,000 medical files of US Army personnel and their family members at Fort Hood.

As part of the three-year, USD3.76m contract, 3M Track and Trace Solutions will provide training and maintenance services over the next year.

3M said that the custom-designed 3M RFID Smart Shelf System is intended to substantially reduce errors and inefficiencies associated with manual tracking, retrieval, filing and file merging methods of medical records management at Fort Hood.

The programme to track and manage Army medical records utilising RFID technology is being led by the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Centre (TATRC), a unit of the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC).
