Ericsson (Nasdaq; SAX: ERIC) and Alcatel Lucent SA (NYSE; Euronext: ALU) are the bidders and Pelephone will soon pick the vendor to set up the new system. Pelephone's mobile TV system will use HSPA technology. It is designed to deliver a customer viewing experience and use of multimedia via a unique intuitive graphics interface. The services are in addition to the EPG experience similar to the satellite broadcaster YES and Hot Cable Systems Media Ltd. Pelephone's system will bring TV and multimedia content for its 3G in a different from current methods, by using innovative technology that can cope with the limits of end equipment, navigation between folders, and the current user interface for such content.

The tender winner is expected to give Pelephone dominance in the mobile TV market, which the company has set as a strategic goal. The system's graphic interface is expected to have high-definition quality, channel zapping, a video-on-demand interface, content download from a full menu, and an innovative interactive interface with IT and Internet content.

The 3.75G HSPA network, which will operate on UMTS routers, will provide high-speed communications with an 2 megabyte per second (Mbps) uplink and high-speed downlinks. Later, the technology will enable 5-Mpbs uplink and up to 14.4 Mbps data downlink.
