York Insurance Services Buys First Mercury's ARPCO

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jun 30, 2008 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- FMR | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- First Mercury Financial Corp. has sold wholly owned subsidiary American Risk Pooling Consultants and affiliated companies to York Insurance Services Group. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Based in Southfield, Mich., ARPCO provides pool administration services, including underwriting, claims, loss control/risk management, and reinsurance to a variety of self-insured public entity pools throughout the Midwest. Upon closing, ARPCO will become part of York Risk Management Services, a division of York that specializes in public entities, such as cities, townships, special districts, and schools throughout the country.

York is a privately held provider of claims-handling, specialized loss adjusting, and other insurance services based in Parsippany, N.J.

First Mercury is primarily an excess and surplus lines underwriter. Members of First Mercury Group currently have a Best's Financial Strength Rating of A- (Excellent).
