CARMIEL, Israel, Jul 01, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- PXBT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Protalix BioTherapeutics, Inc. (Amex: PLX), today announced that on June 27th, 2008, the Company was added to the Russell Microcap Index as part of the Russell Investment Group's reconstitution of its family of U.S. indexes. Membership in the Russell Microcap Index, which remains in place for one year, results in automatic inclusion in the appropriate growth and value style indexes. The Russell Investment Group determines membership for its equity indexes primarily by objective, market-capitalization rankings and style attributes.

According to the Russell Investment Group, the Russell indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and active investment strategies. An industry-leading $4.4 trillion in assets are currently benchmarked to the Russell indexes. The annual reconstitution of the Russell indexes captures the 4,000 largest U.S. stocks as of the end of May, ranking them by total market capitalization. The top 3,000 stocks become the Russell 3000(R) Index, the largest 1,000 stocks become the Russell 1000(R) Index, the next 2,000 stocks become the Russell 2000(R) Index, and the smallest 1,000 stocks in the Russell 2000 Index plus the next smallest 1,000 stocks comprise the Russell Microcap Index. These investment tools originated from Russell's multi-manager investment business in the early 1980s when the Russell Investment Group saw the need for a more objective, market-driven set of benchmarks in order to evaluate outside investment managers.
