Jul 01, 2008 (SmarTrend(R) News Watch via COMTEX) -- WMT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Today, a Minnesota state judge ruled against the world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) in a wage-class action suit. WMT was ordered to pay $6.5 million to its hourly employees for requiring them to work off the clock during training and not allowing them to take full rest and meal breaks. Wal-Mart must come to trial again to determine the amount they will have to pay in damages facing up to $1000 per every one of its 2 million violations, meaning the company could be charged an additional $2 billion in damages alone. Wal-Mart is considering an appeal.
