TOKYO, Jul 01, 2008 (Kyodo News International - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- ASGLY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Leading Japanese glassmaker Asahi Glass Co. will change its name to AGC in the future, company President Kazuhiko Ishimura said Tuesday.

The company united its group brands under AGC last September on the occasion of its 100th anniversary. It has also adopted the brand in the names of group companies.

As to when the name change will actually take place, Ishimura showed a cautious stance as Asahi Glass has been a household name in Japan for quite some time.

"We should change the company name after enhancing the brand recognition of AGC," he said.
