The company also announced that its Pennsylvania market has received another community accolade in being voted "Best in the Valley" by the readers of Lehigh Valley Magazine.
The seven new HD channels include Discovery Channel-HD, Animal Planet-HD, The Learning Channel-HD, The Science Channel-HD, Lifetime Movie Network-HD, Food Network -HD, and Travel Channel-HD, according to the company.
"We are committed to connecting our customers to something more. The addition of these new high definition channels and providing HD to our video ON DEMAND service is part of that ongoing commitment," said Randy Schwartzman, Senior Director of Sales and Marketing, RCN of Pennsylvania. "RCN is the first and only cable service provider in most areas of the Lehigh Valley to offer video ON DEMAND and the first to offer it in high definition."
Schwartzman explained that Video ON DEMAND, which is available to customers with a digital converter box, allows the customer to use his or her cable remote control to order digital movies or shows from the RCN library of titles when you want to watch them. It has more selections and categories than the traditional Pay-Per-View service. Now these digital customers will be able to order films in HD.
"Our commitment to superior customer service, high customer satisfaction and state-of-the-art technology is extremely important to everyone at RCN, so it is rewarding to be acknowledged by the readers of Lehigh Valley magazine at the Best of the Valley banquet last evening," added Schwartzman, who received the awards on behalf of the company. "We appreciate the community recognition and we're proud of our employees who make being the best a priority every day."
