Ask.com is wholly owned by IAC (Nasdaq: IACI). The deal was announced on 15 May 2008. According to Reuters, Lexico was the subject of a previous acquisition attempt by Answers.com in July 2008, and received a USD500,000 payment when that offer collapsed in March after Answers.com withdrew a stock offering needed to fund the deal.
Brian Kariger and Daniel Fierro, the founders of Lexico, will remain with the firm after its integration into Ask.com.
Financial details of the deal were not released.
