Guangzhou Honda Executive Managing Director Fu Shoujie expected the model to become a champion in the small-sized car market with a monthly sales volume of 7,000 units.
The model made a debut in Beijing on July 2. The first batch of new Fit to be put into the market will contain five products with 1.3- and 1.5-liter displacement as well as a price range from CNY 86,800 to CNY 129,800.
The new Fit is 55mm longer than the original one in wheelbase and 20mm wider in track, which is believed to not only enlarge the interior space but also enhance the practicality.
The front pillar has been moved forward to create a comfortable cabin with space equivalent to a medium-sized sedan. Notably, the exterior highlights sports styling, earlier reports said.
The new model will be powered by newly developed 1.3-liter i-VTEC engine and 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine. The former can deliver a maximum output of 73kW and a maximum torque of 127Nm with a stepless gear speeder, and the latter a maximum output of 88kW and a maximum torque of 145Nm with a five-speed manual transmission.
These days has witnessed a string of new products by Guangzhou Honda, located in Guangzhou, capital of the southern province of Guangdong. This March, it announced the prices of its eight-generation Accord, a leading medium-and high-grade sedan model.
The Accord 3.5L was priced at CNY 339,800 while Accord 2.0MT and Accord 2.0EX were priced at CNY 181,800 and CNY 199,800, respectively. The prices were even lower than the industry estimations and believed to delight Accord dealers nationwide.
Guangzhou Honda, founded in July 1998, is the 50-50 joint venture between Honda Motor and its Chinese partner Guangzhou Automobile Group. Currently, it builds cars under four brands, namely Accord, Odyssey, Fit and City.
The venture has had two plants, respectively based in Huangpu and Zengcheng in the capital. The plants ceased production for nearly one week due to the heavy rain starting on June 2. The cease led to an output reduction of over 7,000 units, about 25 percent of the venture's monthly output.
The Huangpu-based plant, with annual capacity of 120,000 cars, and the other plant, with annual capacity of 240,000 cars, both resumed production on June 10.
