New Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers To Open In Illinois

Jul 08, 2008 (DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY DOCUMENTS AND PUBLICATIONS/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- SBCO | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Residents and business owners in Coles, Henderson, and Mercer counties who suffered losses or damages as a result of the severe storms and flooding on June 1 and continuing can meet face-to-face with disaster recovery specialists at a new state/federalMobile Disaster Recovery Center (MDRC) located in their counties.

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and other disaster recovery specialists will be available to meet with disaster victims to answer questions andprovide recovery information.

New DRC locations and hours of operation:

Coles County (FEMA Mobile Unit) Life Span Center 11021 East County Road 800N Mattoon Open Wednesday, July 9 through Saturday, July 12, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Henderson County (FEMA Mobile Unit) Henderson County Health Department 208 W. Elm Street Gladstone Open Wednesday, July 9 through Saturday, July 12, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Open Friday, July 18 through Monday, July 21, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Mercer County (FEMA Mobile Unit) Keithsburg City Building 302 S. 14th Street Keithsburg Open Monday, July 14 through Wednesday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Open Wednesday, July 23 through Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The DRC staff will answer questions about registration for disaster assistance and hazard mitigation, help with disaster loan applications, and provide information and contacts for other programs.

Homeowners and renters affected by the recent severe storms and flooding can register for assistance by calling the telephone registration line, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). Residents are encouraged to register prior to visiting a DRC. Forspeech- or hearing-impaired applicants, the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585. Registration lines are available 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week until further notice. Applicants also may register online at www.fema.gov.

SBA representatives at the DRCs will meet with home and business loan applicants to provide assistance in completing their disaster loan applications and to accept completed disaster loan applications. Returning the application is an essential part ofthe disaster recovery process even for individuals who do not qualify for a loan.

SBA offers low-interest disaster loans to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations for losses not fully covered by insurance. The SBA may loan up to $200,000 to repair or replace homes and up to $40,000 torepair or replace personal property. Up to $1.5 million is available for uncompensated business disaster losses.

Residents and business owners can receive information about SBA disaster loans and help with the application process by calling the SBA Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955 or visiting the SBA Web site at www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance or by e-mailing the SBA at disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.

Other FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Centers are open daily from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. until further notice, except for the Lake County MDRC which only is open July 7- 12. The other locations are:

* Adams County, Illinois Veteran's Home, 1707 N. 12th Street, Quincy

* Lawrence County, Parkview Junior High School, 1802 Cedar Street, Lawrenceville

* Warren County, Monmouth College, Huff Athletic Building, 700 E. Broadway, Monmouth

* Winnebago County, Michelsen's Office Furniture Building, 8020 N. 2nd Street, Machesney Park

* Lake County, a Mobile DRC, only is open Monday, July 7 through Saturday, July 12, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Lions Club, 23 South Street, Fox Lake

Additional DRC locations may be announced in the future.
