Energy Conversion Devices To Create GM Rooftop Solar System

(financialwire.net via COMTEX) -- GM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- July 9, 2008 (FinancialWire) Solar energy product maker Energy Conversion Devices (NASDAQ: ENER | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) (Current Market Cap: US$2.66 Bil.) said it will supply solar cell laminates to General Motors (NYSE: GM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) for the world's largest rooftop power generation system.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Energy's Solar Ovonics subsidiary will supply the UNI-Solar thin-film flexible solar laminates, which will be installed this fall at a 2 million-square foot car plant in Figueruelas, Zaragoza, Spain.

The rooftop system will have about 85,000 solar panels and peak capacity of 12 megawatts -- enough electricity to power 4,575 homes.

The Zaragoza plant builds Opel cars for the European marketplace.
