Susan Fawcett, 48, of Oakmont and Lawrence Kontor, 58, of Shadyside were indicted by a federal grand jury for a scheme to defraud American Express.
Prosecutors accuse Fawcett, with the assistance of Kontor and other unnamed co-conspirators, of opening an American Express merchant account to accept customer payments. Kontor is accused of helping other co-conspirators open American Express business accounts.
Fawcett and Kontor are accused of charging hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of services never rendered to the American Express business accounts and providing the credit card company with fake names in order to avoid internal company controls to detect fraud.
