The mean estimate of three analysts polled by Thomson Reuters was for earnings of $1.36 a share.
Sales for the three months ended June 30 rose 31% to $174.5 million from $133.6 million a year ago.
The Lufkin, Texas-based manufacturer of oil field pumping units forecast third-quarter earnings from continuing operations of $1.55 to $1.65 a share, above Wall Street's consensus of $1.41 a share.
Lufkin also raised its 2008 earnings-per-share outlook to $5.50 and $5.70, up from its prior view of $5.10 to $5.30 a share.
