Having smelling of huge potential from customers in Mainland China, Apple is speeding up its China strategy. It plans to open a second store in Beijing in 2009, and open more in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, Ron Johnson, senior vice president of Retail Operations at Apple, said in an interview on July 17.
However, iPhone mobile phones will be not sold at the first store tomorrow, the senior vice president noted.
In order to bring iPhone mobile phones into the Chinese market, Apple has been in pricky negotiations with Chinese mobile carriers for months including China Mobile Ltd. (SEHK: 0941 and NYSE: CHL) and China Unicom Ltd. (NYSE: CHU, SEHK: 0762, and SHSE: 600050).
A China Mobile executive said that he could not close his company had an interest in 2G iPhone or 3G iPhone.
