The award was presented at the Omni Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles at a ceremony attended by more than 500 including representatives from more than 30 major corporations and government agencies as well as 43 nominated minority business enterprises (MBEs).
The SOTY Class IV award, it was reported, recognizes companies with annual revenue of $50 million or more who have demonstrated competitive business growth, employment and job creation especially for minorities, consistent high quality operations and business performance, approaches and cost savings for clients, and initiatives to assist other MBEs as well as company procurement from MBEs.
Bruce Geier, TIG President and CEO, accepted the award. In his acceptance remarks Geier thanked Sempra Energy and Southern California Gas Company for nominating TIG and for recognizing TIG's consistently superior performance in meeting IT requirements. Geier also thanked SCMBDC for the recognition as well as the SCMBDC corporate members, many of whom are also TIG customers and technology partners. He also recognized the efforts of TIG's employees for providing the consistently strong level and quality of services recognized by the SOTY Award.
As part of winning the SOTY Award Geier receives a scholarship to attend NMSDC's custom Advanced Executive Management Education Program at the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.
TIG also won the SOTY award form NMSDC affiliate, Council for Supplier Diversity-San Diego, on May 22, and previously received the SOTY award from SCMBDC in 2003.
