Jul 23, 2008 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- ALB | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Albemarle Corporation (NYSE: ALB), a supplier of petroleum refining catalysts and additives, said on 22 July that it has developed and produced a new catalyst (Ketjenfine 770) that can help improve the performance of hydrodesulfurization (HDS) units by up to 35% over the current most active catalysts in the hydroprocessing marketplace. The company stated that Ketjenfine 770 hydrodesulfurization catalyst is built on patented STARS technology. The catalyst will enable ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) refiners to improve their operating margins substantially. The company's R&D team developed the new technology in Amsterdam and the technology will be available from production sites in the Netherlands and the United States. The product has already been shipped to Europe and is commercially available to refiners worldwide.
