Monsanto Canada Announces New Appointments in Canola and Crop Protection Business

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, Jul 23, 2008 (Marketwire via COMTEX) -- MON | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Monsanto Canada (NYSE:MON) is pleased to announce several appointments in its canola and crop protection marketing group.

Cory McArthur has been appointed marketing director for canola and crop protection, replacing Norm Sissons who was recently appointed to the position of global product manager within Monsanto's Seminis vegetable business. In this role, McArthur will provide business leadership to the west technology development team, as well as provide marketing direction for the company's crop protection and canola businesses in Canada. He will also assume a position on Monsanto's Canadian Leadership Team, comprised of key personnel responsible for each of Monsanto's core business and enabling team functions.

McArthur has held numerous roles within Monsanto Canada over the past ten years, the most recent being manager of Monsanto's chemistry business in Western and Eastern Canada. He previously held the roles of customer strategy lead and western licensing business manager. McArthur grew up in northeast Saskatchewan and received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

Jennifer Bailes takes on the chemistry business manager role, replacing Cory McArthur. In this role, Jennifer will be responsible for managing Monsanto's chemistry business which markets the industry leading glyphosate brand, Roundup(R), to growers across Canada. Bailes joined Monsanto Canada in September 2007 as chemistry marketing associate and brings additional marketing and product management experience to this role through her previous position of canola seed product manager for Agricore United's Proven Seed business. Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba.

Additional recent changes within Monsanto's canola and seed business were also released today.

Neil Arbuckle has moved into the newly created role of canola business development lead. In this role, he is leading the development and implementation of the commercial launch plan for Roundup Ready 2 Yield canola. He is also focusing on long-term strategic canola investments and partnerships and developing networks with key internal and external stakeholders to maximize the effectiveness of Monsanto's canola investments.

Arbuckle brings extensive seed industry and marketing experience to this role. He joined Monsanto in August 2006, taking on the role of DEKALB business manager. He previously held a number of roles of increasing responsibility at Agricore United including seed sales supervisor, area sales manager, distribution manager and manager of Agricore United's Proven Seed business. Arbuckle holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba and holds and an MBA from Queen's University.

Cornie Thiessen is now in the role of DEKALB business manager for Western Canada replacing Neil Arbuckle. In this role, Thiessen is responsible for managing Monsanto's branded seed business which markets quality certified canola, corn and soybean seed to growers under the DEKALB brand name. Cornie grew up in southern Manitoba and started with Monsanto in 1995 at the Roundup Dry plant in Morden, Manitoba. He has held a variety of roles with increasing responsibility within Monsanto and transferred to the Winnipeg head office in 2001 when he joined the operations group. Prior to this new role, Cornie was the DEKALB marketing associate. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba.
