PowerRating -- SPREADING BEAUTY: Cindy Beitmen of Richmond loves Nigella, an annual that reseeds quickly and abundantly, but she is careful to control the population in her yard by removing the seed pods before they burst. The self-seeding Nigella can be found growing on rocky slopes, wasteland and in fallow fields, apparently thriving on neglect. In the garden, grow in an informal, mixed or annual border in any well-drained soil. They love the full sun. If you have something special to share, send it -- along with the plant's name and the city you live in -- to the Times, Home & Garden, P.O. Box 8099, Walnut Creek, CA 94596-8099, or e-mail JPEGs to jmorris@bayareanewsgroup.com. You also can post your masterpieces on the Home & Garden photo blog at www.ContraCostaTimes.com/homeandgarden.
